Simple quilled flowers in a beveled frame

Quilled flowers in a beveled paper frame

I created this simple arrangement of quilled flowers with daisies and cornflowers as a gift. I used 1/8"-wide strips for the leaves and petals, and 3/8" strips for the fringed flowers and flower centers. The fringe is very dense. I always try to put some quilled insect as a point of interest in my flower arrangements. This work isn't an exception — you can see a tiny green bug climbing the flowers.

To frame this picture I built a beveled paper frame using 140lb (300gsm) card stock, tinted with acrylic paint. Step-by-step for a frame like this can be found in "How to make a beveled picture frame out of paper". Size of the finished picture is about 10 1/8 x 7 1/4 inches (25.8 x 18.5 cm).

Красиво! Очень нравится фон - простой, но глубокий. Цветочки здорово на нем смотрятся.

They are just beautiful. The fringed flowers here look very dense compared to the one in your tutorial. Is there a difference? Also, is there any other easy method to cut the fringes? I tried doing it the traditional way with scissors and my hands actually started hurting. So I was wondering if I was doing it right, because so many people seem to be making so many beautiful fringes, is it really that difficult?

Thank you very much! I tried my best to cut the fringe as dense as possible for this project. There are fringing machines or fringers, but the cannot cut a dense fringe.
Also, take a look at this tutorial, it’s in Russian, but the pictures can help you understand the method. She puts a stopper strip made of cardstock onto the strip of paper she’s cutting, and then cuts quickly and densely. This requires some practice though.

It looks so beautiful. I was trying to make the frame as your instruction, but it doesn't look stable. Did you use glue for corners? Thanks for inspiring me!!!!

Thuy, I glue the entire border down to the back of the frame when a picture is already installed inside. I explained this in detail, please follow the link in the post.
