Quilled jewelry - pendant, earrings & card

Quilled jewelry: pendant and earrings

As I already wrote, I sometimes teach paper quilling workshops in a craft store. There is a variety of projects to make, each aimed at a specific level (beginners or advanced), and focuses on specific quilling techniques. One of the workshops is dedicated to quilled jewelry, when the students learn to create a jewelry set — a pendant, a pair of earrings and a greeting card that matches them. The card is made so that it can hold the earrings or be used stand-alone.

The pendant is made inside a round copper base that measures 1" (2.5 cm) in diameter. For both the pendant and the earrings we use quilling strips of the color called "antique gold", mostly 1/8" wide (3 mm), but for some elements we have to cut the strips lengthwise, making them only 1/16" wide (1.5 mm). Diameter of the earrings is approximately 5/8" (1.5 cm). The tiny roses on the pieces are made using the folded rose technique, the petals are created with a quilling comb.

Quilled greeting card with earrings

When the pendant and earrings are ready, we create the greeting card. For the card we use special "newspaper" scrap-booking paper, distress ink, card stock and 1/8"- and 3/8"-wide quilling strips (3 mm and 9 mm).

We use the same motif with folded roses to decorate the greeting card. Size of the card is 5 x 7 inches (about 12.5 x 17.5 cm).

Just one word WONDERFUL! The earrings are looking so, so elegant I wouldn't say they made from paper. And the way you designed a card to match them is great!
