Quilling: Flower arrangement in beige

Quilled flower arrangement

Recently I've created this relatively simple flower arrangement, as a gift. It's almost monochromatic, in tints of brown and beige. For this project I used a new technique — the one the large curled petals were made with.

The instructions can be found on the blog called "Simple Rhyme" (highly recommended): SR's Royal Flower. My curled flower is made of narrow paper strips, 1/16" in width (1.5mm). The rest of the leaves and flowers are made of ordinary 1/8" (3mm) strips. For the base I used recycled decorative paper with fiber and foil inclusions.

Flower arrangement, detail

The picture is framed in a modified IKEA frame — I made it about 3/4" (2cm) deeper to accommodate quilling. Size of the finished work is 5"x7" (13x18cm).

Love your work! Very inspirational!! Could you tell me if you apply any kind of protective varnish over your quilled pieces? If so,what kind of varnish do you use?

Inna D. said...

I don't use any varnish when frame it with glass. You can use any matte varnish spray for acrylic painting.
