Owls everywhere... quilled

The owl is one of the most amazing birds in my opinion. I like owls as a subject of my crafts: I made an owl cake, a salted dough owl, owl salt and pepper shakers, and this time also a paper quilling owl.

I must admit that there's hardly anything special about the way I did the owl, but the technique I used for the branches is special. It's called Chigiri-e. Chigiri-e uses torn colored Washi paper to create images, very interesting and beautiful effects can be achieved with it. I learned about this technique from "Paper Crafts Workshop" and combine it with other techniques sometimes, yet still waiting for inspiration (and more Washi paper, which is quite pricey) to come for a big project.

I assembled the owl on a sheet of brown paper and then cut it out to glue onto the blue background. The eyes are two fringed flowers. The branches are mounted on a double-sided adhesive foam tape. I also used an embossing tool to press in veins on the tiny leafs. Size of the finished work, not including the frame, is 5 1/2''x 5 1/2'' (14x14cm).
For this project I used both hand-cut and pre-cut quilling strips. Well, there is a difference! Unfortunately, my package of quilling papers has not arrived yet :(

And to finish with, as it looks like sharing a link has become a good tradition, I'd like to invite you to have a look at Quilling by Caroline Spellman. Enjoy!

Вероника, спасибо большое, ствол дерева сделала в технике чигири-э, а листочки с жёлудем - из бумаги для квиллинга.
