Calendars decorated with quilling

With the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) being celebrated this week, and the New Year of the Gregorian calendar about three months away, I thought it would be a good idea to share my quilling-decorated calendars. A beautifully embellished, handmade, one-of-a-kind calendar can be a wonderful present for just anybody, and is relatively easy to make. You can start with a printed calendar and add quilling to it, or find calendars to print on the internet.

For example, for this one I used a mass-production calendar with a magnet on its reverse side. Decorating it with quilled flowers in shades of brown and yellow turned the calendar into something completely different, and made it a great Rosh-Hashanah gift for a friend.

The other calendar is made in the form of an easel greeting card. This time I created the calendar layout in a word processor and printed it out.

The cover page of this calendar is decorated with a paper cut-out that says "Shanah Tovah", which means "a good year" in Hebrew (that is, "Have a good year"). It also features an apple and honeycomb, since apples and honey are symbolic foods for Rosh Hashanah.

The stopper of this easel card are quilled Hebrew letters that designate the new year of the Jewish calendar, but you may make the number of the Gregorian calendar year instead, of course.
