Another birthday cake, one I made long ago. I'm not going to write the recipe, but only how to decorate it. For this owl cake you will need:
- Two round sponge cakes
- Vanilla or chocolate cream
- Chocolate sprinkles (jimmies) or grated chocolate
- Shredded coconut
- Marzipan
- Instant coffee
Put the cakes side by side, one of them will be the owl's head and the other will be the body. Cut a tear drop shape out of the body, leaving some space at the top, like shown in the photo. You'll get two crescent-like pieces at the sides. Move them little apart, they will make the wings.

Spread the cream, then sprinkle the chocolate and coconut over the cake according to the design.
To colour shredded coconut light brown using instant coffee: put some coconut into a small plastic bag, add a small amount of dissolved instant coffee (approx. 1 teaspoon). Close the bag tightly and mix thoroughly until the contents becomes uniformly coloured.
Finally, shape the legs, beak, eyes and eyebrows from marzipan.
