Altered item: Decorative box with a quilled folk art bird

Quilling decorated box

As I already wrote, I like using folk art motifs in my paper quilling. Here's a new box with traditional Ukrainian patterns.

I made my first box by Opishnyanska painting style, this time I used Petrykivsky painting (Petrykivka), the one I especially like. Main elements are from this album.

Decorated box, sketch

I made a sketch of the design with colored pencils, and then used it to do the quilling.

Quilling decorated box, side view

As before, a cheese container was used for the base, which I covered with colored paper. Diameter 11cm (4 3/8 inches).

WOW! This is beautiful... I can imagine all the hardwork that went into making this. It turned out great.

Archana, thank you very much :) The bird's tail was really difficult to do. The flowers are so small, that each petal is made from a 6cm long only strip.

Martha, thank you very much!

Archana, for the longest feathers (on the left side) I used 4 strips approx. 30 cm (A4 paper) each, of two different colors.

You are amazing! I think God has gifted you maigical hands!! You should seriously have an art gallery of your quilling work.
Why dont you put some videos where you can teach people how to do quilling? I just bought the tools yesterday but I am not able to do it by reading the techniques. A video would be more helpful

I don't have enough time to shoot and post-process video :( I tried (here's an example), but it takes too long.
I wonder if you saw my photo-tutorials here, here and here. If you still can't manage it, you always can find some really good videos on YouTube. I especially like this one on quilling. Good luck!

This is gorgeous, so cheerful! I love, love the combination of colors. And to sketch it out is brilliant. Most of all I like practical quilling where it has a use and when I read it was the top of a box, I thought WOW! Thanks for sharing.
